Teaneck High School (known as The Castle on the Hill〔Buchsbaum, Herbert; Monagle, Katie; and Peart, Karen N. ("Race and class. Residents call it 'the castle on the hill.'"〕) is a four-year comprehensive public high school in Teaneck, in Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, serving students in ninth through twelfth grades as the lone secondary school of the Teaneck Public Schools. The school has been accredited since 1935 by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Secondary Schools.〔(Teaneck High School ), Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Secondary Schools, backed up by the Internet Archive as of March 15, 2012. As of the 2012-13 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,274 students and 114.4 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 11.14:1. There were 296 students (23.2% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 118 (9.3% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.〔(School Data for Teaneck High School ), National Center for Education Statistics. Core members of the school's administration are principal Dennis Heck, with assistant principals Peter LoGiudice and Pedro Valdes III.〔(Administration ), Teaneck High School. ("New Principals to Greet Students This Year: Dennis Heck takes the helm at THS; Angela Davis to lead TJMS; and Deirdre Spollen-LaRaia fills principal role at Hawthorne" ), ''TeaneckPatch'', August 31, 2011. Accessed August 31, 2011. "On Aug. 3, the Teaneck Board of Education approved the transfer of former Teaneck High School Principal Angela Davis to her new role as principal of Thomas Jefferson Middle School. Former THS Assistant Principal Dennis Heck now serves as interim principal of THS, with former Dean of Students Peter LoGiudice now serving as interim assistant principal alongside Assistant Principal Marianne Conway."〕
Teaneck's sports teams are nicknamed the Highwaymen; girls' teams are called the Highwaywomen.〔(Teaneck High School ), New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association. Accessed August 18, 2015.〕 The team name comes from the highwaymen who would seize money and belongings from those traveling along highways during the 17th and 18th century and for the school's location overlooking Route 4.〔Houck, Emerson B.
